Just weeks after debuting in the Seaport District, a Connecticut-based bagel chain is expanding its footprint in the Boston area.
PopUp Bagels will open its third Massachusetts location at 485 Revolution Drive in Somerville’s Assembly Row, the brand’s Director of Public Relations told What Now Boston.
The team announced the news on social media, exclaiming, “ANNOUNCING OUR SECOND BOSTON LOCATION!! … Boston loves the Sox, chowdah, Tom Brady, and wicked good bagels!”
Franchisee Brian Harrington, who opened the Seaport shop in January 2025, will also oversee the Somerville site. A third location is situated at Captain Marden’s in Wellesley. Along with its Greater Boston presence, PopUp currently operates four spots in New York and four in Connecticut.
What began in 2020 as a “backyard pickup window” with founder Adam Goldberg selling bagels out of his Westport, Connecticut kitchen has since evolved into a viral sensation.
The chain is celebrated for its “unmistakably perfect bagels with no frills,” boasting a crispy crust and soft crumb center. Served whole and unsliced straight from the oven, they’re designed to be “gripped, ripped, and dipped” into small tubs of specialty “schmears” that elevate the cream cheese experience with bold and unexpected flavors.
PopUp Bagels is slated to open in Assembly Row in the summer of 2025.
