A fresh serving of fast-casual dining is officially making its way to Alexandria. A proposed Shake Shack has officially received administrative approval, bringing locals closer to piping hot fries and burgers.

According to the meeting minutes planned for the City of Alexandria’s Planning Commission’s February 4, 2025 session, approval was granted for the popular chain’s 621 King Street location on December 27, 2024.

The 2,750 square foot restaurant will be Shake Shack’s 7th in Northern Virginia. According to the special use permit application the concept filed with Alexandria, the storefront will allow seating for up to 36 customers and will offer both dine-in and take-out options.

Shake Shack anticipates drawing a great deal of to-go service. The beloved national brand anticipates the general makeup of orders to break down to approximately 70 percent takeout, mobile app orders or third-party delivery and under 30 percent to be enjoyed on-site, a fact that likely figured heavily into the city’s approval of the site. The location does not have a featured parking lot, which Shake Shack addresses on its application, stating: “ Shake Shack will offer a digital-forward ordering experience. The nearby residential population and thousands of employees working in the area will be able to easily take a quick walk to pick up their meals.“
