King of the Coop, Tampa’s first homegrown Nashville Hot Chicken brand, is preparing to close up shop in Ybor City and move to a new location in Seminole Heights. The current location, at 1812 N 15th St, will wind down at the end of this month, and King of the Coop will start working to get open in its new home, in the building currently occupied by Nebraska Mini Mart, at 4815 Nebraska Ave in Seminole Heights.

“I’m opening up the menu a little bit,” owner Joe Dodd told What Now on Friday. “Adding some items and also kind of taking it back to our old-school menu. We’ll be adding some vegetarian items like a vegetarian tender, a vegetarian-style chicken for sandwiches. There’s also a griddle there at the location that we’ll be keeping.”

On the top that, King of the Coop will be serving up beer and wine, “with the emphasis on beer” (which makes sense, given that beer and chicken are kind of a match made in heaven).

“We’re going to have different specials each day,” Dodd added. “Right now we’re just at the planning board, coming up with fun things to do and ways to get involved with our new local community.”

The current menu at King of the Coop features sandwiches like The OG (2 jumbo tenders on a Martin’s Potato Bun topped with King Sauce and our coleslaw, served with a side of fries), the Dirty Bird (2 jumbo tenders on a Martin’s Potato Bun with our creamy pimento cheese and topped with King Sauce, and served with a side of fries), and the King Mac (2 jumbo tenders on a Martin’s Potato Bun with King Sauce, coleslaw, Coop’s Pickles, and our Creamy Mac N Cheese, served with fries. This sandwich is the sandwich of all sandwiches!).

There are other favorites, too, like Chicken & Waffles, Fried Pickles, and Fowl Fries (2 chopped tenders, fries, Mac N Cheese, crispy bacon, crunchy onions, dill ranch, king sauce, pickles).
