In addition to our normal news coverage, What Now Atlanta is tracking ways Atlanta’s businesses are adapting to the novel coronavirus and the challenges it brings to brick-and-mortars.
UPDATE (June 30, 2020): What Now Atlanta on Tuesday was provided the following statement from a restaurant spokesperson: “Joe’s on Juniper confirms one employee has tested positive for COVID-19 and two other employees displayed symptoms including a fever. The restaurant will remain closed for now until all employees have been tested and have negative results. The restaurant is also undergoing a deep cleaning and sanitation for the protection of staff and guests.”
Joe’s on Juniper has temporarily closed its Midtown doors after a couple of employees exhibited COVID-19 symptoms, a spokesperson for the restaurant Monday told What Now Atlanta in an email.
“The restaurant felt it was a safety precaution to close, sanitize, and have staff tested before returning to work,” they said. “The staff members have not tested positive for COVID-19. I repeat—there is not a positive test or case there. This is simply the restaurant being proactive and ensuring the absolute safety of guests and staff at this time.”
Even if the employees had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, Joe’s on Juniper, which is expected to reopen Wednesday, is not required by Georgia law to close down or even notify the public. Chick-fil-A in Chastain Park, for example, took the opposite approach, staying open as employees fell ill with the virus and shielding the info from its customers.
