Wylie & Rum, a new tropical Island-inspired restaurant, is now open, at 45 Moreland Avenue SE, at the corner of Moreland Avenue and Wylie Street, in Reynoldstown.
Wylie & Rum is a new venture for long-time restaurateur, Tony Lewis, who has partnered with his son David Lewis and Cuban-American Jose Lopez to deliver Cuban-, tropical-, Caribbean-inspired food.
David, who was responsible for the look and feel of the restaurant, has lived in nearby Cabbagetown for eleven years and is transitioning from a 15-year career in TV and Film to take on this new venture, according to a press release from the restaurant.
“I have fond childhood memories of eating at a Caribbean-inspired restaurant my dad and Jose owned in the nineties, and I look forward to recreating that happy and positive environment for my neighbors,” David said in a prepared statement.
Jose Lopez, who has partnered with Tony on previous restaurant ventures, has curated a menu that fuses “tropical island flavors with a modern flare using fresh regionally-sourced ingredients.” The restaurant’s full bar offers everything from Red Stripe to a specialty rum cocktail.
The 2,600 square-foot space has undergone extensive renovations, including the addition of three murals by Tommy Bronx and Brian Steely. There are 60 seats inside, a sixteen-seat bar area, and another 50+ seats on the patio.
