Good news for Georgians excited for Wawa to enter the state: A location is underway.

According to construction plans, the convenience store and gas station will be built at 1401 Tallahassee Hwy in Bainbridge. The building will be 6,119 square feet, according to the plans.

It was made known last fall that the Pennsylvania-based company was eyeing expansion to the Peach State, and that a Georgia location could be open by 2024. Eater Atlanta reported at the time that the state could get as many as 20 Wawa locations in the coming years.

Bainbridge is in the southwestern corner of Georgia, near the state’s border with Florida. The location fits with the geographic vision the company had expressed focusing on for its growth in the state, with “southern and coastal” areas of Georgia being discussed as the targeted areas for Wawa.

Wawa first began in 1803 as an iron foundry in New Jersey before evolving into a dairy production business and eventually a food market in the 20th century. The company now has about 1,000 corporate-owned stores across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C.

In addition to the quintessential convenience store offerings, the store is popular for its sandwiches and coffee.
