West Village staple Corner Bistro is aiming to open a second location. It is looking to take over the space formerly occupied by Offside Tavern at 94 Avenue A in East Village, according to liquor license paperwork filed with the community board.
Owner Elizabeth McGrath, who took the business over from her father in 2015, operates the Corner Bistro. It describes itself as “a corner of New York City history” on its website.
“Corner Bistro, the last of the bohemian bars in West Greenwich Village, has been serving customers since the earlier part of this century,” the website states. “The original ambience is pretty much unchanged, and we like to keep it that way.”
It is known for its burgers and sandwiches. It also serves breakfast items like omelettes and avocado toast, and it has entrees like meatloaf and chopped steak.
The East Village location is expected to be similar to the West Village spot, according to filed paperwork. The new spot has plans for 17 indoor tables that will seat 50.
The proposed hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 4 a.m. daily.
