Dispute Prompts Deli’s Exit from Old Colorado City Space

Hammond’s Pastrami & Delicatessen has left the building.

After just a few months as a tenant at Trails End Taproom in Old Colorado City, Hammond’s Pastrami & Delicatessen has moved out. The business announced on its Facebook this week that a dispute led to its departure from the property, and that they will be temporarily sharing a space with The Chuckwagon (located at 6453 Omaha Boulevard).

“Upon our health inspection nearly two weeks ago, we were all informed that Trails End was operating under our food license, and us at Hammond’s and The Seared Steer had the only active food license for the property. As opposed to getting their own license, the owner of Trails End has ended our lease agreement, effective immediately,” the brand wrote.

However, a rebuttal online from Trails End claims it has been fully licensed for seven years and that they were  “surprised” by Hammond’s “decision to move out”. It urged patrons to look into health department records, which show an inspection on April 23 found multiple violations.

Neither company returned a request for comment prior to publication. The deli concept had only been operating there since early January. What Now Denver covered its pending arrival late last year.

For now, Hammond’s will be serving from a food truck outside of The Chuckwagon or the other part of the building. The business posted that it is looking for general contractors and searching for a “permanent home”.
