Denver’s historic Patterson Inn will soon unveil a unique amenity for the city’s alternative hospitality scene: a cannabis lounge and coffee shop within a boutique hotel. A concept called The 420 Denver is in the works in the basement space of the property — aptly addressed 420 East Eleventh Avenue — according to Westword.

Cannabis advocate Chris Chiari has owned the Patterson Inn for seven years. He was the first person to apply for a cannabis hospitality license after the city opted into the program in 2021, and subsequently formed The 420 Hotel Inc., a reefer-friendly resort company for which the Patterson is the flagship location.

He explains that The 420 Denver will be a state-licensed, bring-your-own-cannabis (BYOC) lounge with an occupancy of about 25 patrons. It has been in the works for many years, but permits were just granted in February, he shared on LinkedIn. The lounge is now under construction and he expects to wrap up work in five to eight weeks.

“The 420 Denver will be the most exciting and unique amenity in overnight hospitality and will serve first as a safe licensed space for hotel guests to consume,” he told What Now Denver. “My goal has always been the normalization and destigmatization of cannabis possession and use, and I am doing that by pairing cannabis as a convenience to an already successful operating hotel.”

The lounge will be a multi-faceted space, also operating as a coffee shop Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and hosting events in the evenings. It will offer all the accessories customers need in order to partake, free to use at no cost.
