Black Box Bakery is expanding in Edgewater, with plans to open a new sit-down café at 5901 W. 25th Avenue this fall.
According to Westword, The new Black Box Café will take over the former Suzette space, which closed in April. The bakery’s existing stand inside Edgewater Public Market will remain open.
Black Box Bakery launched in 2019 as a wholesale operation before building a following for its pastries at farmers markets and other local events. The business opened its Edgewater Public Market location in 2022, where its laminated pastries and croissants became a popular draw.
The new café will give Black Box an opportunity to expand its offerings beyond the pastries that have become its signature.
The bakery is known for its laminated dough, which requires multiple rounds of folding, resting and proofing before it is ready to bake. Its pastry lineup has included creative takes on the classic croissant, including its colorful “queerssont.”
Black Box Café is expected to open this fall. An official opening date and operating hours are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
