After years of anticipation, Whataburger has announced that it will enter the North Carolina market this spring, starting with a location opening this month in Gastonia. However, there is more on the way this summer. A Charlotte location will open at 12935 Albemarle Road, one will open in Hickory at 2060 U.S. Highway 70 S.E. and another in Indian Land at 8574 Charlotte Hwy.
A Greensboro location previously reported on by What Now Charlotte will open later this summer, and a Kernersville location reported on by What Now Charlotte will open later in 2025, according to Axios Charlotte.
Whataburger, which boasts more than 1,000 locations across the country, is known for its American fast-casual fare, including burgers, fries and chicken sandwiches.
Whataburger has just begun its foray into the Carolinas recently. Last summer, it opened its first South Carolina location in Boiler Springs.
After the opening in Gastonia, Whataburger is expected to continue to expand across the North Carolina market, reaching beyond the Charlotte and Triad regions and spreading as far as Raleigh. The brand is expected to roll out more locations as the year progresses.
