A new gem appears to be coming to Ponce City Market.
Catbird is planned for the popular Old Fourth Ward destination at 675 Ponce De Leon Avenue NE, according to a building permit application with the City of Atlanta. The brand would be going into the approximately 1,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Goorin Bros. Hat Shop.
Catbird is a New York-based jewelry brand. Founded by Rony Vardi in 2004, the first shop opened in a small 225-square-foot space in Williamsburg selling not only jewelry but also art supplies, jeans and candles. The brand now has three stores in New York, two in Los Angeles, one in Boston, one in Washington D.C., one in San Francisco, one in Boston and one in Philadelphia.
Catbird aims for sustainable practices, using 95 percent recycled 14k gold and 95 percent recycled diamonds, according to the company. Among the products the brand is known for: dainty, stackable rings; engagement rings and wedding bands; permanent bracelets; earrings; and more. The pieces have been seen on celebrities like Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers and Jenny Slate.
The New York Times reported in July 2024 that Catbird planned to expand its national footprint through additional storefronts by 2026, with an eye on Atlanta.
Catbird did a pop-up last year in Atlanta at the Warby Parker store in Buckhead Village.
Officials could not be immediately reached for more information about the plans.
