Art One Gallery Is Shutting Its Doors
Art One Gallery is preparing to say goodbye to its community of supporters. Opened in 1993, the gallery has been facing financial woes for some time. In a farewell note addressed to ‘Art One Community and Supporters,’ Art One Gallery announced its closure with a heavy heart.
The decision was not an easy one. “We have explored every possible option, but as a business that has always operated month-to-month, the financial challenges have simply become too great to overcome,” the message read. The message was jointly signed by Kraig, Max, Clayton, and Rebecca.
Gallery founder Kraig Foote is also dealing with ongoing health issues and plans to relocate to Utah by the end of July to be closer to family. The gallery has organized a closing sale from July 7 to August, offering a 20% discount on all artwork during this period. Art One Gallery closes on August 30, 2025.
Three Decades of Championing Emerging Artists
For the last three decades, the gallery has built a legacy of honoring and promoting Arizona’s budding and student artists. The gallery, which has long operated month-to-month, held off on closure until the financial strain became unsustainable.
As stated in the announcement, Kraig remained fully committed to preserving art despite ongoing health concerns. He made many personal sacrifices to support the gallery and the community it serves. As those resources stand depleted, the financial burden of sustaining the venue is no longer manageable.
Kraig established the gallery in Scottsdale’s Arts District, known for fostering a vibrant community of emerging artists. He drew inspiration from a former roommate, an art instructor who encouraged students to create at home due to limited resources.
Kraig aimed to support talented young artists who lacked the resources to break into the art world.
Closing Sale Details and Legacy Preservation
Though separate, the Art One Foundation was created as an extension of the gallery’s mission. The foundation provides supplies, educational aid, and financial support to high school and college artists.
The foundation offers support in the form of art materials, educational assistance, and other art-related costs to emerging high school and college artists. It has made a significant difference, positively impacting the artistic journeys of numerous student artists.
The leadership of the gallery confirmed the foundation will continue its operations. It will continue supporting student artists in high school and college as they adapt to the ever-changing art industry.
Details on how to support local artists and attend the farewell event will be shared soon. Art One Gallery has expressed gratitude to its community of supporters, who stood strongly to back emerging artists over the years.
The Scottsdale gallery played a key role in launching many local artists’ careers. ts absence will be felt across Arizona’s art community, which long relied on the gallery as a launchpad for emerging talent.
