An experienced barista is starting her own coffee shop in the Portland Food Hall.

It was recently reported by Bridgetown Bites that Marley Abeyta will be opening BEST Coffee at 827 SW 2nd Avenue on the mezzanine level of the food hall. It is set to be a coffee shop with an incorporated diner vibe. According to Abeyta, the timeline of opening is mid-September.

When speaking with Abeyta, she told What Now Portland the team just signed the lease, and they have to do a quick buildout. Working in coffee since she was 14, she has always wanted to open her own spot.

“The end goal is having my own shop and being able to have my own menu,” Abeyta said.

Abeyta also worked at Carnelian Coffee in the city, and Bridgetown Bites reported she plans on using coffee from this shop as she is close friends with the founders. One of her own specials she wants to include is an unrefined Mexican sugar cane mix, that she says has a rich, roasty and sweet flavor. This will be served year round.

Other drinks to be expected are espressos, lattes, mochas and cappuccinos. Along with the coffee, her friends will be making pastries. She wants to incorporate a “diner” vibe and have pies available each week.

“We’re very much still in the beginning phases,” Abeyta said.
