A new yet-to-be-named restaurant and cocktail bar from the owners of Glai Baan is coming to downtown Tempe at 34 E. Seventh Street.
Set to open in 2026, the new restaurant will be located in the historic Gov. Benjamin B. Moeur House and adjacent Hatton Hall at the corner of Seventh Street and Myrtle Avenue, according to AZ Central. Owners Cat Bunnag and Dan Robinson are developing the concept in partnership with the City of Tempe. While the new restaurant will reflect Bunnag and Robinson’s distinctive culinary style, Bunnag says it will offer something different from Glai Baan, their popular Thai street food spot in central Phoenix.
Since opening in 2017, Glai Baan has garnered national acclaim, including a 2024 James Beard Award semifinalist nomination and recognition from several major media outlets as one of the best restaurants of the year. The Phoenix-based restaurant specializes in Thai street food and regional dishes from northeastern Thailand. Menu offerings include dishes such as moo ping (grilled pork skewers), tod mun pla (fried fish cakes), and pad kee mao (drunken noodles). Glai Baan also features a rotating cocktail list and a curated selection of Thai-inspired desserts.
Built in 1893, the Moeur House was originally home to Dr. Benjamin B. Moeur, Tempe’s only full-time physician at the time and a two-term Arizona governor. In 1993, it was converted into office space, and Hatton Hall, a community building named for former Tempe City Council member Patricia A. Hatton, was added to the property. Robinson said they were drawn to the site because of its historic charm. Tempe Historic Preservation Officer Zachary Lechner called the project an exciting opportunity to breathe new life into a local landmark. Mayor Corey Woods echoed the enthusiasm, praising the couple’s contribution to Tempe’s growing food scene and welcoming the addition to the downtown area.
