According to Mission Local, the owner of Bissap Baobab, Marco Senghor, is looking to purchase Muddy Waters Cafe.
For readers who are unfamiliar with Muddy Waters Cafe, the coffeeshop was opened by Hisham and Elham Massarweh in 1990 and became known as a casual hangout spot with pastries and bagels. It’s located at 521 Valencia Street, near establishments such as the bar Casanova Lounge, La Cumbre taqueria, and the pizza shop Nizario’s. According to the Journal, the coffeehouse has been up for sale for the last year and a half.
What Now San Francisco spoke briefly with a Bissap Baobap restaurant representative, but the business could not provide additional information before the time of publication.
Nevertheless, Senghor tells the Journal, “It’s almost like we’re coming back to the beginning… We want to try to make sure his legacy doesn’t shut down, stay and try to grow hopefully.”
The purchase is still being negotiated. Follow What Now San Francisco on Facebook for updates to this story.
