According to a recently shared press release, the restaurateurs behind A16 are readying to introduce a new Southern Italian cuisine-focused concept, Luciana, at the Ferry Building Marketplace.
“What began as an Italian holiday food basket pop-up during the early days of COVID has evolved into a permanent space rooted in everything we care about: community, hospitality, and honest, seasonal cooking,” says Shelley Lindgren, co-owner and wine director of A16.
She continues, “Lucania brings together nearly three decades of experience in San Francisco’s food and wine world, inspired by the traditions of Southern Italy and the rhythm of life here in the city.”
“Being in the historic and iconic Ferry Building is an incredible opportunity; it allows us to welcome guests on their own time, whether they’re grabbing a morning coffee, enjoying a glass of wine, or sitting down to share a meal. It’s our way of investing in the future of San Francisco while honoring its rich past.”
Taking over Suite 36, a nearly 3,000 square foot space that was formerly home to MarketBar, the eatery will land near existing tenants such as Cholita Linda, the Japanese delicatessen Delica, and the seafood market Nopa Fish.
“Lucania will blend historic techniques with modern sensibilities to offer a dining experience rooted in quality, authenticity, and sustainability. A celebration of Mediterranean flavors, the restaurant will highlight locally grown vegetables and sustainable seafood sourced from Bay Area farmers markets as well as a thoughtfully curated wine and beer list,” the statement shares. Menu items mentioned include Pesce Blu selections of marinated anchovies, roasted sardines, and steamed mussels, alongside artisanal pizzas and handmade pastas.
Additionally, the eatery will boast a weather-protected, heated outdoor patio that overlooks “the Embarcadero promenade and the Ferry Building’s expansive façade,” inspired by Italian piazzas.
Luciana is slated to open in mid-to-late 2016. Follow What Now San Francisco on Facebook for updates.
