Tavern & Bowl is a sports bar concept with an outlet in East Village and another one in Costa Mesa. The place is known for its upscale pub grub and bowling lanes. The East Village outlet underwent a routine inspection this Tuesday.
Inspectors noted that the hot running water at the facility was not at the required 110°F. A contaminated water supply was also observed at the facility. Another major violation reported was the presence of vermin. Active insect and rodent infestation was a major cause of cross-contamination.
Inspectors noted that proper food-handling practices were not being followed. Food storage and equipment setup did not meet required safety standards. The facility did not have a valid permit to operate and serve food.
Given the imminent health hazards, the inspectors ordered a temporary closure of the sports bar. Once all the food safety lapses are eliminated, a re-inspection might take place, allowing the facility to operate again.
