According to a recently submitted permit application, a new dining concept listed as Berkeley K-Food is gearing up to open in Berkeley.
Coming to 2511 Channing Way, the eatery will be located near establishments such as the bagel shop Bagel Street Café, Cupcakin Bake Shop, and the South Indian cuisine restaurant ThayirSadam.
What Now San Francisco reached out to the upcoming restaurant’s owner, Hye Kyung Allen, to learn more about his plans for the business; however, he could not provide additional information before publication.
Nevertheless, the filing reveals that the eatery intends to serve “Korean fusion food.”
According to Allen’s contact information, he is also affiliated with a concept named Ta-Ke Sushi. While its now-shuttered (it closed in September 2025, per Yelp reviews), there was a Ta-Ke Sushi in Oakland that was known for offering fresh sushi and traditional Japanese dishes. However, it’s not confirmed that the Ta-Ke Sushi in relation to Allen and the eatery that formerly operated in Oakland are related.
Considering What Now San Francisco’s recently reported upcoming restaurant openings in the city, Berkeley K-Food is landing on Channing Way at an opportune time.
For example, the El Sobrante-based business El Trompudo, a concept that specializes in authentic Jalisco-style Mexican cuisine made using traditional recipes and fresh ingredients, is preparing to debut at 2437 Dwight Way. Its menu will offer breakfast items such as chorizo and eggs, huevo rancheros, and chilaquiles; lunch options will include California-style burritos topped with carne asada, cheesy quesadillas, and burgers.
Another dining concept, My Oh My Shawarma, is gearing up to open at 2431 Telegraph Avenue. Drawing from the menu at its flagship location at 1866 Euclid Avenue in Berkeley, the restaurant will serve shawarma and falafel wraps, protein bowls — topped with either chicken, beef, or falafel — and platters that come with sides such as rice, fries, and salad.
