While it is unwise to judge a book by its cover, it is difficult not to assess a restaurant by its ambiance. The cuisine, of course, is the primary draw, but diners are also attracted to a comfortable environment that feels welcoming and warm. To this end, a beloved Memphis institution has been on the receiving end of a makeover. Catherine & Mary’s is undergoing a glow-up certain to make the eatery’s interior as inviting as its Sicilian cuisine, reports the Memphis Business Journal.
Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman’s 272 S Main Street restaurant has been implementing its improvements in phases, which first began in late 2024. The focus is presently on seating, a change that will make a large impact on the Catherine & Mary’s dining experience. A space near the bar is being turned into a lounge which will provide seating for eight to 10 customers.
The renovations and upgrades have been spearheaded by Natalie Lieberman, a well-established Memphis designer with several restaurant credits to her name. Her objective is to increase the comfort of guests enjoying a meal at Catherine & Mary’s. She has already brightened the lights to make the space feel more vibrant and welcoming, added cushions to bar seats, and will soon be adding plush banquet seats to the dining room.
