A clothing store offering secondhand apparel and young adult options is returning this year.
Staff of Uptown Cheapskate at 29508 7 Mile Road have been teasing their return to the Detroit area on social media this last month. It first opened in 2023 as a thrift store and is now coming back after a brief hiatus. The new owner Simon Zolotaryov did not give an opening date, but is confident it will be sometime soon.
“We pay cash for clothes” is their motto. Their store has multiple steps for those wanting to donate clothes: first preparing the clothes and making sure items are clean, bringing the clothing items to the store with a valid ID, and then waiting until those items are bought. When purchased, the person who donated the item gets cash or can receive 25% in-store credit.
Items to choose from at the previous location include, hoodies, pants, shirts, shoes, hats and beanies. Jewelry, cups and sunglasses are also merchandise found at the shop.
Zolotaryov said the store will essentially be the same as it was when it first opened two years ago. It is the country’s largest resale franchise, with locations all around the U.S. including four in Michigan. Zolotaryov was listed as the manager in early August.
Uptown Cheapskate is at the north end of Livonia’s plaza at Middlebelt Road. Next to it are Mochinut, Hibachi Express, Box 5 Tattoo and Koney Island Inn. Walmart and Kohls are across the parking lot nearby.
Now, the team is hiring for new positions. More information can be found on their Instagram @uptownlivoniami.
