Local investor Sam Patel is joining forces with Jim Maddox to bring a new bar to The Maddox Hotel at 530 Church Street. The Hitchcock should open later this fall.
Patel told What Now Nashville that he owns a nearby Subway location and Maddox suggested they team up to open a tavern in the space. The concept will offer a nod to the history of the building, which was constructed in 1893. It was formerly known as The Hitchcock Building, which inspired the name of the bar.
“It has a lot of rich history,” Patel said. “It was pretty cool when we were pulling up the floors because we had these subway floors for 30+ years, and we’re pulling all these floors up, and there was a nice, beautiful terrazzo tile floor from when the drugstore used to be in there.”
Unique design touches such as the historic floor will define the space, creating an upscale atmosphere ideal for grabbing drinks after work or meeting up with a friend for a pre- or post-dinner drink.
“We just hit the jackpot — it blended in with all our whole design and with the color schemes,” Patel said. “We ended up using that same historic floor from 100 years ago.”
Other design elements will include a centuries-old oak bar, warm lighting, an in-house radio station, a classic country soundtrack and touches reminiscent of an old movie set.
Patel and Maddox tapped local bar owner Gabe Fuenmayor to help with the operational side of the bar. Customers can expect specialty cocktails, a high-end wine list and beers on tap. There will also be a food menu featuring finger foods, pizza and charcuterie, though the emphasis will be on the beverage program.
The spot will be designed to complement The Maddox Hotel, which features nine suites and 48 guest rooms, and other nearby offerings. Patel is optimistic about their customer base, as they hope to draw from nearby condominiums and the nearby legislative buildings.
“This place is really unique for Nashville,” Patel said. “We have a lot of nice places here, but especially in that particular area where we’re located at the corner of six and Church Street.”
