A Midtown favorite is gearing up to raise a stein somewhere new.

Midtown BierGarten, also known as Der Biergarten, announced last week that it’s planning to open a second Sacramento-area location.

In a social media update, owner Sean Derfield invited fans to weigh in on what kind of space they’d like to see: an entirely outdoor setup like the current one at 2332 K St, or something with a different twist. Most commenters were divided between another fully open-air hangout and a hybrid indoor-outdoor space.

Derfield, who also owns Sean Finnegan’s Pub in Old Sacramento, launched the BierGarten concept in 2014. Known for its communal tables, laid-back atmosphere, and lineup of German and local craft beers, the spot has become a neighborhood staple.

Beyond the brews, guests can dig into hearty German-style favorites, including giant pretzels, schnitzel, currywurst, and bratwurst.

According to the post, Derfield is currently exploring possible sites in Old Sacramento, West Sacramento, and Folsom. While plans are still in the early stages, a black-and-white rendering shared online teases a rustic wooden structure surrounded by outdoor benches.

Derfield confirmed the expansion with What Now Sacramento, noting that more details should be available next week. Stay tuned for updates as Midtown BierGarten plans its next Sacramento spot.
