Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream served its last scoop at the Houston Street location on October 12. Founder Nicholas Morgenstern shared the news in a farewell post earlier this month. However, the reason for the closure wasn’t disclosed.

While Morgenstern’s has shut operations, its pints, ice cream cakes, and merch are available on the official website. Nicholas added that catering bookings will continue through the brand’s ice cream carts and trucks. New Yorkers can still place delivery orders through the brand’s website.

One of the Sunnyside neighborhood’s favorite Mexican restaurants closed on October 24 after a decade in business. Through an Instagram post, Cemitas El Tigre thanked NY patrons for their constant backing over the years. However, the post didn’t mention why the restaurant decided to close.

Cemitas El Tigre expressed gratitude to the Sunnyside community and said that a new restaurant will come to its decade-old spot. The Mexican restaurant did not reveal anything about its possible return, though.

Cemitas El Tigre transitioned from a small Sunnyside eatery into a beloved neighborhood destination over the last ten years. The Sunnyside spot became known for its towering 10-layer cemita sandwiches and other crowd favorites.

Jimbo Slims

Patrons visited the neighborhood bar for menu highlights featuring cocktails, such as Moscow Mule and Phil Collins. Jumbo Pretzel, Artichoke Dip, and Mary’s House were some of its beloved food items.

While the Rochester-based location has closed its doors, plans to keep its food truck venture continue as normal. TacoDero’s food truck will serve a small menu during the holiday season and share timely updates about its weekly schedule.

Locals stopped by for street-style Mexican dishes that made the spot a neighborhood favorite. One of the menu highlights was shredded beef tacos served with consommé. Patrons also received a rotating lineup of classic Mexican fare during its last two years of service.

One of NYC’s longtime Italian food spots, Basta Pasta, served its last plate on October 30. The restaurant shared the sad news with its loyal patrons through Instagram. However, Basta Pasta did not give a proper reason for the closure.

Currently, there is no update regarding the NY-based food establishment’s return. The three-decade-old food staple did not share plans to open a new location either.

Basta Pasta served New Yorkers authentic Italian fare for 35 years. The menu also featured Japanese influences across several dishes. Spaghetti with Prosciutto and Parmesan, Tonnarelli with Ham and Parmesan, Sea Urchin Pasta, and Spaghetti with Fish Eggs were some of the well-loved dishes.

October’s wave of closures marks the end of several beloved eateries, underscoring New York’s ever-changing dining scene.
