Buda Ice Cream Shoppe is poised to fill a void in Buda and the Greater Austin community, with two slightly unlikely community names behind the operation. The co-founders of Kids Tooth Team Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Alex Otto and Mr. Tim Otto, are drilling in on a location on Main Street, the perfect spot to open a local ice cream shop for their neighbors, patients, and children.
According to a recently filed permit, Buda Ice Cream Shoppe is expected to open on 112 North Main Street, Ste 112a in Buda sometime next Spring. The permit details that construction on the new ice cream eatery is scheduled to start at the beginning of next year and is slated to wrap up by the beginning of April 2026. If all goes well, Dr. Otto and her husband will be pleasing sweet tooths with their new ice cream shop instead of picking at them by the end of April 2026.
What Now Austin reached out to the Ottos to find out more about the new opening, but did not hear back by the time of this publication. We did, however, find a podcast, “GO Talk Texas”, on which the two were recently on to discuss the opening.
“We’d always be walking around downtown, there’s like all of the great places: antique stores, Summer Moon, Mercantile, not a place to get ice cream on Main Street. Love Buda Soda Fountain, but it’s across the street,” Tim said in the podcast.
Buda Soda Fountain is not quite accessible to the Buda community, as it sits across the railroad tracks, the podcast host acknowledged. So the Ottos shared that desire to fill what could be considered a cavity in the sweets department for Buda residents and their visitors.
“Buda’s growing so much, people like walking around after dinner,” Dr. Otto said, alluding to after dark hours.
“The fact that is on Main Street is going to be so fun.”
While there aren’t very many details on what Buda Ice Cream Shoppe will serve or whether the dentist will be scooping up and dishing out dental-safe creamy eats, the Ottos shared that their creamery will be as authentic as ice cream can get.
“We’re talking proper scoop ice cream, not froyo. Nothing against froyo, but it’s not the same,” Mr. Otto said.
While the permit details that construction on the Buda Ice cream Shoppe doesn’t start until next year, the Ottos shared on the podcast, which was published back in May, that they were hoping to open by January.
“We want the place that we live to be incredible, that you care about, that we care about,” Dr. Otto said.
Keep your eyes peeled, your ears perked, and your stride on Main Street purposeful to find out more details about Buda Ice Cream Shoppe’s grand opening. Buda Ice Cream Shoppe is expected to open on 112 North Main Street, Ste 112a, sometime next Spring.
