Book Bar, a bar concept that blends elements of a cocktail lounge, library, and bookstore, is getting ready to open in Toronto at 600 Markham Street.
The new bar is set to open in one of the restored heritage homes in the new Mirvish Village development, which was formerly the home of Honest Ed’s, according to BlogTO. While an exact opening date has not been announced, the concept is currently planning a Spring 2026 debut. Book Bar is expected to offer a mix of book browsing, cocktails, and light dining, with a focus on creating a space for conversation and community.
Book Bar has gained traction in cities such as London and New York, where similar literature-inspired lounges have paired reading culture with hospitality. The Toronto location will follow a similar model by offering a curated selection of books at its entrance, along with flexible seating and multiple levels for lounging and socializing. The creators behind the project describe it as a place rooted in creativity and discussion, reflecting the neighbourhood’s character and the building’s heritage.
Guests can expect a menu centered on wine and cocktails, light snacks, and a rotating selection of books, along with events and programming aligned with reading, learning, and conversation. The team behind the project has emphasized that the space is designed for visitors to linger, whether they arrive for a drink, a browse through the shelves, or a quiet place to meet with friends.
Mirvish Village is positioned at the southwest corner of Bloor and Bathurst and includes a mix of residential and retail units designed to support a walkable, community-oriented destination. Book Bar will sit alongside other incoming tenants, including the second location of Pizzeria Badiali, as the development continues to fill out its roster of food and culture-driven operators. The concept aims to complement the neighbourhood’s long history as a gathering spot for artists, writers, and independent businesses.
