Columbus is getting its first dog park, bar, and coffee shop this summer – Bumble’s Backyard! After searching for more than two years, local entrepreneurs Lauryn and Evan Betterton (along with their dog, Bumble) purchased Double Happy Ice Cream which has been serving handmade soft serve for more than six years in the South Franklinton neighborhood.
Located at 1280 Brown Road, Double Happy will soon be transformed into the dog and human oasis that is missing in Columbus. Bumble’s Backyard will be entirely fenced in with comfortable gathering spaces and artificial dog-friendly turf that guarantees no dog goes home muddy. The cherry on top will be the curated selection of Columbus’s best craft beer and coffee as well as Double Happy’s signature soft serve.
“We want to create a space where dogs, dog havers, and dog lovers can have fun together. Bumble’s Backyard will be a community cornerstone where dog people can come to take a morning meeting while their dog runs around, meet friends for a happy hour after work, or bring a first date to ensure your dogs get along,” said Lauryn Betterton, who owns the concept with her husband, Evan in a statement. “There is so much city pride in Columbus. Bumble’s Backyard will celebrate our city’s culture through locally sourced coffee, beer, and ice cream, furniture created by local craftspeople, murals painted by local artists depicting some of Bumble’s pals, and so many more little touches.”
The founders are seeking community support for their Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign running from April 19th through mid-May to fund construction beginning in the coming weeks. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help build a place for the good dogs and good people of Columbus.
