Music industry veteran and Franklin local Marc Driskill is looking to bring a new venue to the creative community in Franklin in the new year. Black Dog Pub & Music Lounge will open in January at 1331 West Main St.
Driskill told What Now Nashville that his goal is for the spot to be an environment for songwriters to showcase their work and connect with audiences and other artists.
“I’ve been in the music business for about 28 years working with songwriters the entire time, and I developed an intrigue and a love for what it’s like to hear them sing their songs — not just songs we’re familiar with through radio and streaming, but new songs they write where they’re trying to figure out what the life of the song is going to be,” Driskill said.
Black Dog Pub will offer both indoor and outdoor spaces. The indoor space will have a casual neighborhood bar atmosphere, and the outdoor area will offer pet-friendly picnic tables ideal for gathering.
“Our goal is to have a casual, friendly, easy vibe. We want it to be a place where people feel good about being there — not too upscale,” Driskill said.
There will be a full bar and light food offerings, including steak sliders, chicken sauteed skewers, Portuguese sausage sandwiches, dips and salads. Driskill is currently in the process of applying for alcohol licensing.
The spot will be open from Tuesday through Friday from 4 p.m. until 10 or 11 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 or 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Driskill hopes to offer live music on Wednesday through Saturday.
