A new Black-owned business is making its way to Sacramento.
Local resident Jae Dudley is preparing to open Sum’ Mo in the College Greens Shopping Center at 8363 Folsom Blvd, Suite 8383, according to a recently filed alcohol license.
In an email to What Now Sacramento, Dudley described Sum’ Mo as both a bar and café designed to welcome drinkers and non-drinkers alike. The beverage menu will include cocktails alongside mocktails, smoothies, and other health-focused drinks.
On the food side, Dudley said the café will offer light bites inspired by Southern Creole and Cajun flavors, served in a dim sum-style format, along with hot and cold deli sandwiches and a variety of salads, including salmon, Cobb, shrimp Louie, broccoli, and California chicken.
Additional offerings will include flatbread pizzas topped with ingredients like cherry tomatoes, herbed ricotta, Italian sausage, spinach, artichokes, and black olives, as well as rotating wines and small snacks such as savory mixed gourmet nuts.
Beyond food and drink, Sum’ Mo is also planned as an entertainment-focused venue. Dudley said the space will host live music and events throughout the week, including Wine Down Wednesdays, live music on Thursdays and Fridays, and daytime and evening entertainment on Saturdays. Programming is expected to feature contemporary jazz, blues, R&B, Southern soul, spoken word, and poetry, along with open mic nights.
The venue will be relatively intimate, spanning approximately 1,466 square feet, and is intended to have a speakeasy-style atmosphere geared toward neighborhood gatherings and small-scale performances.
Dudley noted that Sum’ Mo is still in the planning phase, with menu offerings, the wine list, and other details continuing to be refined. Floor plan approvals are currently underway, after which kitchen and bar installations will begin. An opening date has not yet been announced.
“Sum’ Mo is the new Viibe in town in the College Greens Area you want to go to and come back for Sum’ Mo it’s so good!” Dudley wrote.
