A longtime West Portal staple, Squat and Gobble, is preparing to close its doors permanently. The cafe will serve its final meal on Sunday, January 25, at its West Portal location. The cafe invited the community on social media to join its final week of celebrations.

Squat and Gobble Cafe Prepares for Final Farewell

Founded in 1993, Squat and Gobble is a local favorite, known for its classic American breakfast and charming San Francisco neighborhood vibe. Located on West Portal Avenue in San Francisco, CA, the cafe serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Some of the popular items on the menu include French toast, eggs Benedict, breakfast burritos, and savory crepes.

The team behind the cafe shared the closure news on social media and wrote, “After 32 amazing years, the time has come for us to say goodbye!”

They also invited the community to join them on their final day of business, which will be next Sunday, January 25.

“It wasn’t an easy decision, but unfortunately, all good things must come to an end! Thank you all for your support through the good times and bad; we wouldn’t have survived without all of you!” said the team behind the cafe.

Along with that, they shared a note of gratitude and appreciation for the community for its support over the decades.

“From rebuilding after a fire to welcoming generations of families through our doors for kids, graduations, birthdays, and celebrations, sharing joy and comfort has been the greatest privilege of our lives,” added Squat and Gobble’s team.

Loyal fans and customers of Squat and Gobble were surprised by the closure announcement. Several patrons of the cafe left heartfelt messages and cherished memories under the social media post.

“Legends will never be forgotten; love what you created for the community all these years,” shared one of the fans.

Another customer wrote, “Awhhhh NO! Now I have to find a new birthday breakfast spot! It has become a tradition. My daughter, who lives in Jersey, would order and send my birthday breakfast from you guys!”

For more than three decades, Squat and Gobble was a place where neighbors gathered, routines were formed, and memories were made. The closure of the cafe marks the end of an era for the West Portal neighborhood.
