Pokeworks is gearing up to make its San Antonio debut. The trendy poke bowl eatery signed a franchise deal last year to bring ten locations to the Alamo City within the next two years. According to a recently filed permit, Pokeworks will open in the Fredmed Plaza at 4343 Medical Dr.
The permit also details that construction on the new Pokeworks is slated to start Valentine’s Day weekend and wrap up by mid-May. If all goes well, we can expect a spring debut for the poke brand.
At the helm of the new location is the franchisee behind the big ten Poke spot openings, Agustin Guzman. What Now San Antonio briefly spoke with Guzman, who confirmed the opening but was unable to share any additional details by the time of this publication.
Pokeworks was opened by Mike Chen, Mike Wu, and Peter Yang. What Now San Antonio also reached out to the founders, but did not hear back by the time of this publication.
“Many trips to Hawaii filled with lots of poke served as the inspiration of bringing the crisp, fresh, healthy island favorite to the Mainland,” the Pokeworks website reads.
Inspired by fresh Hawaiian cuisine, the group launched its first location in Manhattan in 2015. The brand immediately grew after a video featuring their signature “sushi burrito” went viral, garnering 50 million views.
“From the beginning, Pokeworks was a consumer sensation. Hundreds stood in line to build their own poke burrito or bowl,” the website goes on to detail.
“‘The ‘Sushi Burrito’ has hit NYC and it’s amazing,” a video describing our craveable poke burrito, went viral with more than 50 million views. Today, Pokeworks is the leading and fastest-growing fast casual poke brand in the world.”
There are now nearly 75 locations, including a Pokeworks in Mexico. There are already nearly 25 locations in Texas, but the Fredmed Plaza location will likely be the first one in San Antonio.
Besides the iconic sushi burrito, Pokeworks also serves a variety of “Poke Your Way” meals, Hawaiian hot plates, sides, desserts, and much more.
Check out the new Pokeworks for yourself when it opens in the Fredmed Plaza at 4343 Medical Dr this spring.
