Rainbow Gardens is preparing to expand beyond San Antonio with plans for a new garden center on a 9-acre property near Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch.

The San Antonio-based nursery chain entered into a utility agreement for the site, according to the San Antonio Business Journal. The agreement marks a step toward the proposed development, although the project timeline remains open-ended, according to a partner involved in the plans.

The proposed location would expand Rainbow Gardens’ presence in the greater San Antonio area. The company currently operates two garden centers in San Antonio: one at 8516 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78250, and another at 2585 Thousand Oaks Drive, San Antonio, TX 78232.

Rainbow Gardens offers a wide selection of plants and gardening supplies, including trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetables, herbs, houseplants, succulents, and fruit trees. Its inventory also includes soil, mulch, compost, fertilizers, pottery, fountains, garden décor, and gardening tools. The business also provides gardening advice, educational resources, classes, and events.

The company traces its roots to 1976, when Frank Kirby and George A. Beere purchased an existing nursery near West Avenue and Blanco Road in San Antonio. They later acquired another garden center near Thousand Oaks and U.S. Highway 281. The businesses eventually adopted the Rainbow Gardens name and grew into the family-owned operation serving San Antonio and surrounding communities today.

The proposed Boerne-area location would give Rainbow Gardens an opportunity to serve more customers in the Texas Hill Country. However, the company has not yet announced a construction schedule, confirmed opening date, or further details about the planned store.
