Achilles Heel, a longtime neighborhood bar and café in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood, has closed. Opened in 2013, the restaurant was one of several well-known concepts created by New York restaurateur Andrew Tarlow. For years, it served as a go-to gathering spot for Greenpoint locals.
Andrew Tarlow’s Greenpoint Bar Achilles Heel Shutters
Achilles Heel at 180 West St, Brooklyn, was part of the broader restaurant portfolio of Andrew Tarlow. Other hospitality brands under his leadership include Diner, Roman’s, She Wolf Bakery, and more. Like Tarlow’s other concepts, Achilles Heel emphasized high-quality ingredients and a community-driven dining experience.
The spot featured gastropub-style small plates, house cocktails, and brews in a quaint corner tavern. The bar became known for its pop-ups, community programs, residencies, and a menu featuring pastries, bread, and light breakfast items.
Over its 13-year run, the Greenpoint restaurant built a loyal following and became a fixture in the neighborhood’s dining scene. The restaurant served its final guests on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
The next day, an Instagram announcement revealed that Achilles Heel would permanently close. The sudden closure is a shock to the community and its loyal customers. The post read, “It’s with tremendous sadness that we announce the closure of Achilles Heel. Last night was our final hurrah.”

Like many independent restaurants, Achilles Heel faced ongoing financial pressures that ultimately made it unsustainable. The team thanked every individual who became a part of the journey, even with a small contribution.
The closure marks the loss of a longtime neighborhood staple for Greenpoint diners. After more than a decade of service, it joins the list of long-standing NYC restaurants that have shuttered in recent years. Thus, the dynamics of the restaurant industry in the city are ever evolving.
