Longtime friends and hospitality veterans Alex Belew and Shane Nasby are partnering to bring a new restaurant to Murfreesboro this year. Chinwag will open at 1500 Medical Center Pkwy, targeting a late spring or early summer opening, Nasby told What Now Nashville.

The bistro-style restaurant derives its name from meaning “a great conversation between friends,” according to the restaurant’s website. While full menu details are still to come, menu items will range from sandwiches to entrees from Belew’s former Murfreesboro fine-dining restaurant Dallas & Jane. There will also be a cocktail, beer, and wine program.

“We’re going to have a menu that’s well thought out — a little bit nicer, but still approachable,” Nasby said.

As the name of the restaurant suggests, the design of the space will aim to create a relaxing, fun atmosphere designed for gathering.

“We want to create a space where people can come socialize, have fun, have a drink and have dinner with the people they care about and want to spend time with,” Nasby said.

Belew is a Murfreesboro native and, in addition to operating Dallas & Jane, won Season 21 of “Hell’s Kitchen.” Nasby, who helms Raven Hospitality, is behind award-winning Nashville concept Cledis Burgers & Beer, which is slated to open a new location in the Gulch early this year. With Chinwag, the team wanted to bring a concept back to Belew’s hometown.

“We just want this to be a community spot for the city of Murfreesboro to come get a nice cocktail, have a nice dinner and hang out,” Nasby said.
