Clementina opened March 12 on Clement Street in San Francisco, taking over the former Bettola space. The restaurant will operate as an Italian trattoria with a kitchen that is completely gluten-free. After closing its Montesacro Marina location, the team transformed the Bettola space into Clementina. The menu at Clementina includes a range of antipasti, pasta, pizza, and main dishes.
New Italian Restaurant Clementina Opens in Former Bettola Location
Clementina will serve patrons with a completely gluten-free menu. The restaurant is operated by the team behind Montesacro and represents the group’s next step after the closure of its Montesacro Marina location.
Owners Gianluca Legrottaglie and Viviana Devoto said this reflects a personal and professional evolution. The gluten-free kitchen concept developed after the couple’s daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease, which led the family to rethink how meals are prepared and shared.
The team behind the restaurant shared, “We discovered that gluten-free cooking can strengthen craftsmanship rather than limit it, and Clementina reflects that belief.”
Clementina follows the Italian tradition of naming trattorias after family members. Located between Golden Gate Park and the Presidio of San Francisco, it is designed as a neighborhood gathering place.
Gluten-Free Italian Cooking and Menu Highlights

Clementina’s kitchen, led by Chef Giorgio Brunella, features the comforting flavors of Italian cooking with a gluten-free experience.
The restaurant menu focuses on regional Italian cuisine and includes a variety of antipasti, pasta, risotto, seafood, and meat dishes. It offers dishes like Cozze Gratinate al Gorgonzola, Crudo di Mare, Risotto Croccante e Midollo, and more.
The team has also developed a Roman-style flatbread made with a proprietary gluten-free flour blend.
In addition to regular dining service, the restaurant plans to sell house-made gluten-free bread, pasta, and pizza dough at the nearby Clement Street Farmers Market. Future plans may also include live jazz nights and collaborations with local musicians.
Clementina hopes to create an inclusive dining experience with its traditional Italian cooking and a fully gluten-free kitchen. The opening marks a notable new addition to San Francisco’s vibrant dining scene.
