Poke ETC, a Hawaiian poke place, is coming to Pacific Beach, opening on 909 Grand Ave., according to a food license application. The restaurant is opening in a 1,438-square-foot restaurant space that formerly held ramen restaurant Oi Shiba.
The upcoming restaurant is the second for Poke ETC, also operating a location in National City. Poke ETC Pacific Beach is aiming for a late April or early May opening, working through some problems with the building in the last few months, says co-owner Jay Serrano.
Poke ETC offers classic poke bowls like shoyu salmon, spicy mayo tuna, etc. Though it’s the restaurant’s namesake, poke is really just the tip of the iceberg. The restaurant also serves Hawaiian breakfasts like loco moco — a hamburger patty slathered in brown gravy and laid over steaming rice — or kalua hash, which consists of shredded kalua pork over potatoes, eggs and onions.
The restaurant is predominantly Hawaiian, but it exists on Filipino foundations, serving dishes like sweet longanisa and lechon kawali, a crispy pork belly dish. Poke ETC also offers a few fried Japanese dishes, like pork tonkatsu and tempura shrimp.
