What Now reported last week on a big changeup on South Howard Avenue: after 14 years, Soho Saloon has closed its doors, and Disser Hospitality Investment is planning to replace it with a “fresh, elevated hospitality concept.”

If that sounds a little vague—well, it is. Disser Hospitality Investment excels at keeping its cards close to the chest. In the announcement of the transformation, hints were also dropped about “exciting news coming soon regarding the former Deck Pizza / Side Piece space, so stay tuned.”

And staying tuned we are. But, as it turns out, Disser Hospitality Investment is also at work on another project nearby. It’s called Howard & Platt, and it’s opening—where else?—at South Howard Avenue and West Platt Street. (Submitted plan review documents place it more specifically at 301 S Howard Ave.)

The name Howard & Platt comes up in coverage by the Tampa Bay Times, which says it’s set to open in May, and by Tampa Bay Business & Wealth. Neither provide details about the restaurant, however.

“The Howard & Platt project is the interior buildout of a full-service restaurant and bar within the long-vacant TC Choy’s building on South Howard Avenue,” says a page on The Sinclair Group’s website. “Construction is currently underway within the 6,325 SF space to transform it into SOHO’s next dining destination, which will also include exterior dining space.”

If that also sounds a little vague—well, it is! But for now we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled for more details about this new restaurant and bar opening in May!
