A beloved Philadelphia restaurant and bakery will make its return to Fitler Square this summer.

Jezabel’s, owned by Argentine-born chef Jezabel Careaga, is planning a new location at 617 S. 24th St. The opening marks a “homecoming,” as Careaga first launched the business as Gavin’s Bakery at 26th and Pine streets in 2010 before renaming it Jezabel’s. She also operates another outpost in West Philadelphia, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The new location will occupy the ground floor and feature an open kitchen, a front counter for coffee, pastries and empanadas, and a dining room for table service, with plans for a garden.

“This space is a true reflection of Jezabel’s upbringing in Argentina, capturing the flavors, aromas, and cherished memories of her childhood in the Northwest. Every dish tells a story–of family gatherings, bustling markets, and the vibrant culinary traditions that shaped her passion for cooking,” the website reads.

Jezabel’s is known for its empanadas, with fillings such as beef, chicken and ham and cheese, alongside vegetarian options like spinach, leek and cheese, and corn, as well as vegan varieties including lentil and corn.

The pastry menu features Argentine staples such as medialunas, a croissant-style pastry; Mafalda, a medialuna with ham and cheese; factura, an egg custard pastry; pastafrola, a jam tart; and ricotta cake with lemon.

Chef Careaga plans to expand the menu at the new location, with a larger kitchen allowing room for plated dishes such as steak, pasta, tapas and vegetable-focused fare. She will also host several pre-opening and pop-up events in the space to preview items from the upcoming menu ahead of the debut, the outlet reported.

While an official opening date has not been announced, Jezabel’s will initially open daily as a bakery with lunch service, later expanding to dinner.

In the meantime, customers can still visit the West Philadelphia location, and Chef Careaga will continue fulfilling current farmers market commitments.
