Born in Austin, healthy restaurant chain Honest Mary’s has expanded to include five locations: four in the Austin market, and another in Houston. What Now Houston reported last month on plans for yet another Honest Mary’s opening in the Houston area, which will bring the total to six locations when it opens this fall.
Meanwhile, another location—Austin’s fifth—is in the works downtown, where an opening is expected at 222 West Ave, Suite 120.
An opening date has yet to be announced for the new location, which was originally expected to launch in early 2026. An “early 2026” opening now seems not to have eventuated, and so What Now reached out on Friday to owner Nelson Monteith to ask about plans for the downtown opening. Monteith was not immediately available for comment.
The Honest Mary’s menu features “Food that gives you life,” taking a build-your-own approach to its healthy bowls, while also a few preimagined varieties. There’s the Za’atar Spring Bowl (Wild Arugula, Black Forbidden Rice, Za’atar Roasted Carrots, French Green Lentils, Cherry Tomato with Dill, Cucumber Salad, Crispy Chickpeas, Spicy Chili Pequin Sauce, Za’atar Sprinkle), the Garlic Pepper Chimichurri (Garlic Pepper Steak, Organic Spinach, Basmati Rice, Sweet Corn, Charred Broccoli with Sesame, Crispy Chickpeas, Chimichurri Sauce), and the Smoky Poblano (Basmati Rice, Wild Arugula, Sweet Corn, Pickled Onions, Texas Goat Cheese, Avocado, Pumpkin Seeds, Creamy Poblano Sauce, Lime Wedge).
All in all, it’s simple food that’s good for you.
“Honest, simple, genuine—the essence of who we are,” says the Honest Mary’s website. “Our ambition is to help our guests and team become the best version of themselves through nourishing food, authentic kindness, and genuine care for their well-being.”
