Smokey Mo’s is anticipated to open a second location in the Greater Houston region in the near future. The beloved Texas BBQ growing chain is embarking on an expansion in the area, with plans to bring 30-40 locations across the Greater Houston-Galveston area throughout the next few years, according to the Houston Business Journal.

Smokey Mo’s currently has a location just outside of Houston in Conroe. No specific timeline is available just yet on the expansion. The plan is to look for franchisees in the area to help scale up operations in the Greater Houston region.

“Smokey Mo’s TX BBQ has all your Texas BBQ favorites, smoked in house every day by our expert pitmasters,” the Smokey Mo’s website reads.

“Seasoned with our signature Smokey Mo’s dry rub, our brisket, chicken, sausage, turkey and pork are seasoned, juicy, and perfect on their own or topped with our unique Smokey Mo’s BBQ sauce, a savory sauce with a depth of flavor and a little kick. Add our Homestyle Sides, kicked up just a notch, and you’ll agree that Smokey Mo’s TX BBQ is the Best Neighborhood BBQ in Texas™.

What Now Houston reached out to Smokey Mo’s CEO Craig Haley to find out more details about the upcoming expansion, but did not hear back by the time of this publication.

Smokey Mo’s BBQ was founded by Morris “Mo” and Lisa Melchor in Cedar Park, Texas in 2000.  The family business has grown into a Central Texas staple. After expanding to more than 16 locations, the chain was aquired by Switchback Capital in 2022 and continues to grow.

There are now 22 Smokey Mo’s BBQ locations throughout Central Texas.

“Every Smokey Mo’s BBQ franchise location smokes all its meats in house, every day, creating craft-level Texas BBQ and serving it fast & friendly since 2000,” the Smokey Mo’s website reads.

“Smokey Mo’s is a unique opportunity to bring craft-level Texas BBQ to new neighborhoods, with strong economics, a small footprint, and multiple revenue streams.”
