Greenbush Brewing Company permanently shut its doors on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. After almost 15 years of service, the staple craft brewery located in Sawyer, Michigan, has closed.
In the official closure announcement, the team cited a challenging economic environment for the restaurant industry as the reason for the closure.
Greenbush Brewing Co. Closes After 15 Years in Sawyer
Opened in 2011, Greenbush Brewing Co. became a popular local spot for its craft beers and Southern-style BBQ. The brewery offered a wide variety of craft beers, including stronger selections like Star Chicken Shotgun, Brother Benjamin, and Distorter.
In the official closure announcement post on social media, the brewery team shared, “After fourteen years, ten months, and three days, Greenbush is saying ‘uncle.'”
The team behind the brewery also thanked the community for its support over the years. “Thank you to all who supported us over the years. It’s been a ride,” said the team.
Customers and longtime supporters shared their reactions in the comments.
One of the fans commented, “I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say that Greenbush is/was the cornerstone of the Harbor Country brewing economy and tourism experience. Beyond tragic that the ride is over. But what a stellar legacy—to the Sawyer area economy, to the Harbor Country vacationers who made GB a must-stop on their weekend trips, and to the now dozens of small breweries in the area.”
Economic Challenges Cited in Closure

In the post, the brewery shared an emotional note saying ongoing financial struggles over the years ultimately led to its closure.
“As is always the case when something ends, the dusty crevices of the interwebs will be rife with speculation, but the simple reality is that the restaurant world is hurting, and we were no exception.”
The team said it worked to keep the business afloat. “We kicked the can down the road as long as we could, but as they say, the secret to a happy ending is knowing when to roll the credits, so we’re going to exit stage left and let the sun rise on another day.”
While the brewery has closed, it leaves behind a long-standing presence in the local community. The closure reflects broader challenges facing restaurants and breweries across the region.
