A North Shore Mexican favorite is on the move.

The NexMex Thing has announced plans to relocate from 5 Central St in Peabody to a new space at 125 Lynnfield St in Lynn, reports Boston Restaurant Talk. Ownership pointed to years-long roadwork near the Peabody location—an issue that’s shown no signs of easing anytime soon—as the driving force behind the move.

“The prolonged road work in the area, ongoing for the past two years and expected to continue for 2-3 more years, has significantly impacted accessibility to our restaurant,” the team shared on social media. “The resulting detours and street closures ultimately forced us to discontinue lunch service and made it increasingly difficult to operate sustainably.”

Notably, this isn’t a permanent goodbye to Peabody. The post mentions that the team is already scouting new spaces in the city, with hopes of returning in the “near future.”

Founded a decade ago by Emil Sepulveda, NexMex has built a following with its laid-back vibe and crowd-pleasing menu, including dishes like tacos, burritos, fajitas, and nachos, alongside a strong lineup of vegan and vegetarian options. Plenty of margaritas, beer, and cocktails are also available.

The Peabody location will serve its final meals on April 30, 2026, with a reopening in Lynn slated for early June. In the meantime, fans are encouraged to visit the restaurant’s sister concept, POTS, at 77 Main St in Peabody. The speakeasy-style eatery serves traditional Chinese hot pot and dumplings, complemented by an array of specialty cocktails.

“Please come by and show some support, grab your last meal in our Peabody location before the temporary closure,” the team wrote. “Thank you for a decade of memories, support, and community. We hope to serve you again soon.”
