In 1992, the founders of family-operated pizza shop Greco’s New York Pizzeria opened a location in Sherman Oaks at 4572 Van Nuys. In 2016, the brand shuttered the Sherman Oaks location, but the intention was always to return to the community.
Now, the next generation of the family business is bringing Greco’s back to Sherman Oaks. Co-owner Nico Grasu told What Now Los Angeles that they are targeting an early June opening at 4319 Woodman Ave. Santino’s NY Pizza previously operated in the space and closed at the end of March (@whatsnewsfv spotted the new signage here).
The brand, which also has locations in Hollywood and Tarzana, has been part of the Los Angeles culinary scene since 1979, when three brothers opened up the New York-style pizzeria. It offers up to 28-inch pies using hand-tossed dough and sauce made in-house. Customers can purchase pizzas whole or by the slice, alongside other offerings including salads, pastas, wings, hero sandwiches and gyros.
The 1,000-square-foot Sherman Oaks location will offer an open-kitchen concept with counter seating and late hours. The team is making minor cosmetic renovations prior to opening.
For Grasu, who grew up in the Valley, the return to Sherman Oaks is a natural fit for expansion for Greco’s.
“We’re excited to be back serving the Sherman Oaks community,” Grasu said. “We have older customers who have known our dads for a while, so we’re excited to get back in the community and serve Sherman Oaks again.”
