Rainbow Grill in downtown Grandville has officially shut down. The restaurant was operated by a West Michigan-based restaurant group, 4GR8Food Group. Management announced the closure, citing ‘unforeseen events’ as the reason.
Rainbow Grill Announced Sudden Closure After Decades of Service
After serving the community for almost 80 years, the Rainbow Grill located on Chicago Drive in Grandville, Michigan, has closed. Founded in 1946, the eatery was a local favorite spot for classic breakfast and lunch meals.
Earl Zuidema started the restaurant as a drive-in diner. After a decade of operation, the restaurant was purchased by Ted and Helen Zondervan. The Zondervan family continued the operation of the restaurant for the next 69 years.
In 2023, Rainbow Grill’s Grandville location was sold to Restaurant Partners Management, LLC, which is now part of 4GR8Food Group, according to a MassLive report.
On April 28, 2026, the 4GR8Food Group shared, “Due to recent unforeseen events, it is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we must announce the immediate closing of Rainbow Grill on Chicago Drive in downtown Grandville.”
In the announcement, the restaurant thanked the community and said, “We’d like to thank our amazing community for their support of the business for so many years and our incredible staff for their dedication to our guests that we love.”
Even though the Grandville location has closed, the management group said it is exploring opportunities to reopen in the future.
Staff Offered New Roles at Affiliated Grand Rapids Restaurants
In the announcement, the management team confirmed that the employees of Rainbow Grill were offered positions at affiliated restaurants.
“We have offered positions to all our wonderful staff at our affiliated locations in the greater Grand Rapids area, where we will also honor any Rainbow Grill gift cards,” stated the team.
Other restaurants operated by 4GR8Food Group include Anna’s House, Grand Coney Diner, Pete’s Grill & Tavern, and Rockwell Republic.
The company also added that the Rainbow Grill gift cards will be honored at those partner locations.
“Serving this community and the friendships that have been formed over the years has been an incredible honor, and we look forward to seeing you soon,” concluded the team.
