Dana Point Harbor’s Jon’s Fish Market has officially closed on May 3. Owner Shala Mansur O’Keefe announced the closure on social media. The owner cited personal issues as the reason for its sudden closure.
Jon’s Fish Market Closed Permanently on May 3
After more than 46 years of business, Jon’s Fish Market, located in Dana Point Harbor, has closed. The seafood market served its final customers on May 3, marking the end of its run along the waterfront.
Shala Mansur O’Keefe, owner of the market, shared the news of its closure on Instagram. She wrote, “After more than 46 years in business, Jon’s Fish Market in Dana Point Harbor will close permanently this Sunday, May 3.”
She thanked the community, the harbor, and Jon’s Fish Market’s team for their support over the years. She said, “While I am devastated to be closing the doors, my health and the daily weight of small business operations have led me to what I feel is the right decision.”
She added, “I look forward to spending more time with my family and being there for my daughters and grandchildren as much as I am able.”

According to KTLA5, the industry shifts and unstable economic challenges were also contributing factors to the closure decision.
“It navigated the challenges of the pandemic and recently expanded its presence by participating in the Dana Point Harbor Certified Farmers Market. Despite those efforts, the physical and financial demands of running the operation ultimately proved too great to continue,” O’Keefe said in the report.
Legacy of Jon’s Fish Market on Dana Point Harbor
Jon’s Fish Market offered fresh seafood sourced from local fishermen, along with a simple seafood-focused menu. Along the Golden Lantern, the market was located in the heart of Dana Point Harbor.
The market was widely recognized for its coastal charm and waterfront views. The market was founded by Jon Mansur and his wife, Shaaron, in 1980.
The KTLA5 report stated that Dana Point Harbor is currently undergoing a $610 million redevelopment plan. The project is set to finish before the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028.
Amid redevelopment, Jon’s Fish Market was one of several longtime businesses to close during the changes. The closure of Jon’s Fish Market marked the end of a longstanding local favorite at Dana Point Harbor.
