Popular Northern Colorado Tavern to Shut Down After 16 Years of Operation

The Tavern at St. Michael’s Square is preparing to shut its doors permanently. The tavern will serve its last drink on May 24, after 16 years of service in the Greeley neighborhood. The establishment owners shared the closure announcement on Facebook and thanked the community for its support.

The Tavern at St. Michael’s Square Says Farewell

Popularly known for its cozy pub environment, The Tavern at St. Michael’s Square offers craft beers and a bar food menu. It features a fireplace, a covered patio, and a relaxed dining experience. The tavern also hosts trivia nights and other events regularly.

Recommended items on the menu include bangers and mash, fish and chips, and cottage pie. The drink menu features a variety of beers, wine, cocktails, and brunch specials.

Owners Chad and Wendi shared the news of the closure. In a Facebook post, they wrote, “With heavy hearts, we’re sharing that The Tavern will be closing. Our last day of service will be May 24th.”

They said the decision was difficult. They added, “We are so grateful for everyone who has supported us, worked with us, shared a meal with us, celebrated with us, and made The Tavern feel like part of the community.”

The tavern team invited the community to stop by and buy a drink before its final day of service. “Between now and May 24, we would love to see you. Come in for a meal, grab a drink, bring your friends, order your favorites, and help us make these last few weeks full of good food, good memories, and familiar faces,” read the post.

Rent Hike and Expenses Led to Tavern Closure

According to a Bizwest report, the Tavern was struggling with financial issues for the last few years. “Since we first opened with increases in costs, our rent has almost doubled,” stated Chad Young in the report.

The Tavern’s closure announcement post was flooded with heartfelt messages. One of the fans expressed their disappointment and wrote, “I’ll truly miss this place. We tried to support you guys whenever we could. Love you guys and will definitely miss seeing you when I want some of the best mac and cheese and a drink!”

With The Tavern’s closure, the Colorado community will be losing a notable spot. The Tavern looks forward to celebrating its last chapter with its fans and customers.
