The owner of the Maxwell Street staple has plans for a move this year.

Chicago staple Jim’s Original has announced the team is moving from their UIC location at 1250 S Union Avenue in UIC to 551 W 18th Street in Pilsen. It has been at the college campus for over 20 years. Owner Jim Christopoulos told What Now Chicago he is hoping to debut the new spot in the fall.

Fans of Jim’s Original know what to expect, with stacked sandwiches like the Maxwell Polish sausage, pork chop and chicken breast. The restaurant also serves burgers and all-beef hot dogs, with sides of regular fries or cheese fries. The breakfast sandwiches that are being added have not been announced.

“Others have imitated, but only Jim’s has perfected the subtle blend of every ingredient that makes this sandwich truly World Famous,” says the description on their website.

The business was on Maxwell street from 1939 to 2001, serving their signature polish sausage sandwich, which they first created in 1943. They first expanded to UIC in 2001, then moving a block north in 2005. Christopoulos said he started the purchase agreement for the new space in December, and he owned the property as of March.

The new Jim’s Original is opening near the intersection of W 18th Street and S Canalport Avenue. This is on the east side of the Pilsen neighborhood, close to restaurants like Mary’s Taqueria and Ocean Grill & Bar. The area is mostly residential, and Ping Tom Memorial Park is just east of the address.
