The Downtown Pittsburgh Tako restaurant is temporarily closing. On May 21, the restaurant team shared the announcement on social media. The restaurant is planning a major interior revamp and concept refresh.
Downtown Pittsburgh’s Tako to Temporarily Close for Revamp
Located at 214 Sixth Street, Tako is a trendy and high-end Mexican restaurant. It is known for its bold Mexican flavors, craft cocktails, and a lively atmosphere. Recommended items on the menu include Korean tacos, shrimp tempura tacos, and pork shoulder.
In an Instagram post, the restaurant team said, “After years of unforgettable nights, packed dining rooms, tacos, tequila, and late-night energy in the heart of Downtown Pittsburgh, Täkō will temporarily close its doors for a full revamp and reimagination of the concept.”
According to the team, “The upcoming transformation will focus on enhancing every aspect of the guest experience while staying true to the spirit that made Täkō a staple in the city.”

The owners shared key insights in the temporary shutdown announcement. The post noted that the Tako closure is not a goodbye; rather, it’s a fresh reset.
“We’re taking the time to reinvest in the concept, push creativity further, and come back stronger, sharper, and more exciting than ever,” explained the owners.
“This next chapter is about honoring that history while building something even better for the future of Downtown Pittsburgh,” the statement continued.
Tako, operated by Richard DeShatz Restaurant Group, will temporarily shut down on June 28. The Tako restaurant will be back soon with a refreshed look and elevated updates.
