Getting a haircut should be a relaxing experience, and at Arrow Haircuts, every buzz comes paired with a signature cold beer. Mission accomplished!
Owned by brothers Andy and Pete Phipps, the shop operates locations in Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. The brand is now expanding into Charleston with upcoming locations in Mount Pleasant and West Ashley.
The Mount Pleasant location is targeting an August opening in the Fairmount Landing plaza, while the West Ashley shop is planned to open in the first half of 2027 at the Edens Ashley Landing development.
“We build about a store a year. Our business is a people business. At the end of the day, the quality of our experience comes down to the quality of our stylists, and we’re always trying to grow at a rate we’re able to find and hire good new stylists,” Andy told What Now Charleston.
He continued, “The great thing about our business is, if somebody gets a good haircut and they trust the stylists, they’ll come back. We really try to push what we call ‘over-the-top’ service because if you give a great haircut, great service, then you’ve earned a long-term client.”
Arrow Haircuts offers a range of grooming services, including short cuts above or around the ears for any age or gender, skin fades with tightly tapered sides, buzz cuts with one clipper length all around and longer cuts falling below the chin. Additional services include beard trims using clippers, trimmers and shears, along with classic hot towel straight-razor shaves.
“Our haircuts are relatively affordable. Every haircut, you get a free beer. Our beers are our own private label that we do with breweries that we partner with. The beers are named after twists on haircuts,” he said.
The name “Arrow Haircuts” is a nod to the shop’s placement within a development or shopping center.
“We knew that if we wanted to go to the best shopping centers, we were going to have to take the C locations at the A centers. We said, ‘We’ll just point an arrow to where we are, and then customers will be able to find us.’ As we take the quirky locations, we have to be creative in terms of how customers do find us. Each space has its own thing, which, to me, is part of the fun,” Andy said.
The duo looks forward to entering the Charleston market because it attracts both young professionals and families.
“It’s a vibrant city. It’s growing. It’s a place that’s a good match for the type of client and type of vibe we want,” Andy said.
