A market with a long and storied history is preparing to continue its legacy in the DMV. Wagshal’s Grand Bodega is making progress on a new location in Downtown DC, with plans to be open later this summer, reports the Washington Business Journal.

The market will be bringing a refreshing retail experience to 1747 Pennsylvania Avenue NW. President of Wagshal’s Family of Fine Foods Bill Fuchs describes what shoppers can expect from the 5,000 square foot store as: “a neighborhood grocer emporium that the neighbors come to and we collect products that they’re interested in having. I’m not suggesting I’m going to have brown shoelaces if they ask, but you understand what I’m saying. So whether it’s fresh, frozen, cured, just prepared — anything that we can do that will accommodate their needs without having to make the trip to the big grocery store.”

Construction is progressing well on the storefront and signage is up. While a precise opening date is not yet available, Fuchs and his team hope to be customer ready by the first of July.

Wagshal’s will offer catering service and grab-and-go dining options for hungry patrons. It will also have fresh coffee and donuts available to help start the day right.

Wagshal’s has been delighting customers for quite some time; the brand was founded in 1925, though the bodega model is a newer entry in Wagshal’s line.
